Mozart's 250th Birthday

A day to celebrate throughout the world: 27 January 2006. One of the highlights in the Mozart Week 2006, the festive concert in the city of Mozart's birth, will take place at the hour of his birth in the evening when leading international Mozart players perform works from all genres of his creativity. The original instruments used by Mozart himself, his violin and his fortepiano will also be heard in this concert. In 2006 the Mozart Week actually lasts two full weeks to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth. During this winter festival any of the concert programmes focus on the early works that Wolfgang Amadé composed from the age of six while travelling with his father throughout the whole of Western Europe: sonatas for violin and piano, the first symphonies and the early operas written during the first extended journey to Italy - Ascanio in Alba, Wetridate, Lucio Silla - and, as a new production to open the Mozart Week 2006, La finta giardiniera.
